IELTS


IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an English language test of four communicative skills, both academic and general purpose. It tests the candidate for his/her proficiency and skill in the use of the English language.

The Test comprised of four modules - Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking Modules. There is a choice between Academic and General Training in the Reading and Writing Modules.

The tests are designed to cover the full range of abilities in language skills.

Note: The Academic Reading and Writing Modules assess whether a candidate is ready to study or work in the medium of English at an undergraduate, postgraduate or professional level.

The General Training Reading and Writing Modules are not designed to test the full range of formal language skills required for academic purposes, but emphasize basic survival skills in a broad social and educational context. General Training is suitable for candidates who are going to English-speaking countries to complete their secondary education, to undertake work experience or training programs at a non degree level, or for immigration purposes to Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

  1. Listening 4 sections, 40 items 30 minutes
  2. General Training Reading 3 sections, 40 items 60 minutes
  3. Academic Reading 3 sections, 40 items 60 minutes
  4. General Training Writing 2 tasks, (150 – 250 words) 60 minutes
  5. Academic Reading 2 tasks, (150 – 250 words) 60 minutes
  6. Speaking 11 to 14 minutes

The first three modules - Listening, Reading and Writing - must be completed in one day. The Speaking Module may be taken, at the discretion of the test centre, in the seven day period before or after the other Modules.
The tests are designed to cover the full range of abilities in language skills.
